Looking over some old threads, consensus is that Hullkote (the polish not the "antifoul") is plenty fast but only seems to last a couple days. Will be sailing in fresh, brackish, and salt water over the next year. The boat will never be in the water for more than five or six hours so I'm not incredibly worried about any growth, but I do want a shiny, fast finish. Over the top of that I'm conflicted over which polish to use. Repainting the bottom of my Finn in a few weeks, plan is to roll n' tip 4 coats of VC Performance Epoxy over nearly bare glass, then level with 3M 800, then wetsanding 3M 1000, 1500, and 2000. Starbrite seems to be the old standby, also heard that RejeX works pretty well too.įinally there are these ceramic coatings coming out for autos (ArmorShield, Hydrosilex, etc.) which is supposed to be UV stable, hydrophobic and glossy, don't know how effective that would be on a boat but it's supposedly very hard, don't know how fast it would be compared to sailboat-specific products but seems cost-comparable. Also doesn't seem to put as much of a shine into bottoms that weren't previously waxed.Įelsnot seems like it is marketed to keelboat sailors who leave their boats in the water overnight, and is difficult to apply, but works well in that role.
